Cool off with Cool Whip!

It's been reeeeally hot outside lately, so I decided to try out a cool looking recipe that I've had lingering around for a while (since 2005 to be exact…man, I can't believe it's been that long).

IMG_4071

Here's the recipe:
Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ribbon Dessert

It was perfect after a long, hot day… cool & creamy and easy to eat.

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ribbon Dessert

Next time, I'll layer this in foil-lined individual ramekins instead of one 9 X 5 pan though. That way I can just pop one out of the freezer as needed. The loaf pan size is pretty, but I should have served it at a dinner party or something, because I still have half of it in the freezer. I think cute layered cups of cool desert would be more fun to eat.

The recipe is from Kraft's Food & Family magazine. You should check it out. The subscription is FREE and includes 5 issues each year. One for each season, plus a holiday issue. I love getting this in the mail. Lots of quick and easy meal ideas and great photos, too.

So, if you're in the U.S. and want to get a free subscription, you can:
Sign up for it here at kraftfoods.com

If you're in Canada and want a free subscription, you can:

And, if you're outside the U.S. or Canada you can:

Love Cool Whip (especially since I can get it in so many varieties) and I love the free Kraft recipe books. I save every single one as well as the emails (in a special folder of course) and go back to them time and time again. I can't wait to make this particular recipe and I'll take your suggestion of making it in the individual ramekins instead.

This looks really good, especially for a hot summer day. I get the Kraft emails and magazines. I just love them, the look so delicious and they are so simple. I want to make the Frozen Oreo dessert that was in the last one.

Jenn said...

Wow that looks yummy and not diet friendly.

I LOVE Kraft food & family! Almost all of my husband's favorite dishes that I make come from that magazine, which is great because they're all so quick & easy!

how does it feel to make the "professionals" who create the dishes for the kraft website pictures look like amateurs? :)

Ok, I'm having a hard time believing Cool Whip isn't International! Wow! Is there anything similar?

This looks devine. I get the mag but I've never noticed that one. I'll have to go back over them. lol

I love that magazine and have been getting it for years. As someone else mentioned I've saved each one, chances are I've missed a recipe or two the first go round. Thanks for reminding me of this recipe.

Thx!
Ingrid

I want to be your neighbor too! I'm a terrific "taste tester!" Great recommendation for the Kraft mag...I've gotten so many good recipes that I use over and over. Keep up the inspiring work!

Thanks for the tip about the Kraft recipe books. I definitely want to sign up after seeing your creation!

That looks SO good! Don't tell the real bakers/chefs, but I love Cool Whip more than fresh whipped cream and it's so much more convenient. I get the Kraft Foods magazine and also love it. Don't remember that recipe from a few years ago, but probably got it then. Thanks for passing it on. Love the Nutter Butter crust.

Jaina said...

Oooh, that looks nice and refreshing. I could, you know, maybe help finish it off. Ya know, help clear out some space in your freezer?

This magazine also comes to canadians in the form of "What's Cooking" It's the exact same magazine..just Canadian content...same recipes. kraftfoods.ca I think is the website?

YUMMMMMMY....Three of my fav. things....Cool whip (I don't know why some people don't like it!!! Crazy I guess), Peanut Butter, and of course CHOCOLATE!!! This si a must! I guess I will just have to have a party to make this for!

I LOVE the Kraft Food magazines and have been getting them for the past few years! I save all of them! They are wonderful!

I loved when they sent the calendars as well, but they no longer do. They felt that they wanted to put more into the magazines and got rid of the calendars... sad day!

Amber said...

I have been making this for a couple years now and every time I make it it's gone in minutes! It's one of go-to-recpies!

Team Simmons said...

Bakerella, That looks delicious! Silly question, I am hosting a baby shower and I thought cupcake pops might be cute. She is having a girl. What would you reccomend doing to make them cute? Thanks.

Bakerella said...

Bree - you are welcome

Isa - Just thought people would love these recipe ideas

the southern hostess - it was.

puglyfeet - missed ya. Glad you like the site. It needed a facelift.

Pippi - thanks for the heads up. I added a mention on the post.

Mommy Mary - I feel for you.

Larry & Erica Evans - or you can just treat yourself.

Sandy - At least they're still sending the free mags.

Amber - I know, it's just so easy to eat.

Team Simmons - The easiest thing would be light pink candy melts and white candy melts. Pink on bottom. White on top. And pink m&ms for the toppers. Also white non-pareils to sprinkle. I am hoping to do some soon.

This is my favorite recipe for taking to bbqs at friends' houses. It is SO easy and always a big hit. Now, I think I will have to make it again just for the family tonight. Thanks!

Bakerella said...

cheryl - glad it was good

ashleyd - it rocks!

elizabeth - make some for me, too!

Stephanie said...

Oh my goodness, I have to bow down, I made this yesterday for our Sunday dinner with my father-in-law and it was DELICIOUS! I am so embarrassed, but between last night and today, I finished it off! It was awesome and a recipe I will definitely keep and do again. I made it with Safeway brand cool-whip and didn't have enough to do the dollop on top but I didn't miss it a bit.

Bakerella said...

Stephanie - Don't be embarassed. We're all friends here and who hasn't eaten a whole dessert before. I know I have.

Krissy said...

for those who don't have access to cool whip (or don't want to use it because it's made of nothing but chemicals - ick!), use the real stuff - ACTUAL whipped cream. it will taste even better without the plasticky stuff!

Anonymous said...

i love the chocolate/pb combo, but is this mostly for people who love peanut butter? was wondering if i (a chocolate lover) should put another layer of chocolate in there, or just use more chocolate so there's more balance between the pb/chocolate flavors.
-biblioops

Suzanne said...

That looks divine! Thanks for all your great recipes!

Bakerella said...

Krissy - true.

Anonymous - you certainly could, but I don't think they pb flavor is too overwhelming.

Suzanne - you're welcome.

Christina said...

Just made these today (I don't have enough ramekins, so I did it in a muffin pan) and they turned out great! My husband was rolling his eyes with each bite - this recipe is a keeper! Thanks!!!

Bakerella said...

Yay! That's awesome and I'm sure the muffin pans looked just as cute!

This blog is like a dream come true! i love cool whip so much! i just squirt it into a 2 liter bottle and chug it all day long. it is such a nice pick me up, when i am having a bad day (you know the drill, suffering from indigestion, and wanting to beat the guy in the cubicle next to you with a bat)! But i don't, cool whip really helps me keep my cool (no pun intended)!

Bakerella said...

Goodness. Keep up with the cool whip. Wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.
