It's no SHAM…these ROCK!

Mint Oreo Truffles

You guessed it… Mint Oreo Truffles ummmmm… good. These might even be better than the originals (well, maybe). And, they're just as easy to make, but because I could only find the mint Oreos in Double Stuf, I changed the ratios a little from the regular Oreo Truffle recipe. Here you go…

Mint Oreo Truffles


1 pkg. Double Stuf Oreos - Cool Mint Flavor - (1 lb. , 1 oz. pkg.)
• use 22 cookies with cream centers included
• use 10 cookies with cream centers discarded
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, room temperature
chocolate bark or candy coating*

  1. Finely crush the cookies in a food processor or a ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
  2. Stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together completely.
  3. Roll the mixture into 1" balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
  4. Place covered in freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes to help retain shape when dipping in melted chocolate.
  5. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry.
  6. Refrigerate and enjoy!

  1. Make your green and/or white shamrocks first (see picture below). You can use a ziploc bag with a small corner cut off or a decorating bag with with a small round tip attached to make the shamrocks. Use a toothpick to direct chocolate into desired shamrock shape. (Of course, in hindsight, this would have been a lot easier if I had found some little shamrock sprinkles.) Let dry.
  2. Then, dip half the truffles in white chocolate and the other half in green.
  3. If necessary, dip them again for a smooth finish. I found it necessary, especially for the white ones.
  4. Then, on the second dipping, while still wet, press your cooled shamrocks gently on the top of your truffles.
  5. For another effect, you can take the ziploc bag of chocolate and drizzle across each truffle with the alternating color.

Makes about 36 truffles.
Recipe amended from Kraft Food & Family Fall 2006.

I used a brand from Hobby Lobby for the green candy melts and regular white chocolate bark found at Kroger for the rest. But since I can't find a link to them online, here's a few links to some other candy melts I found, but haven't tried yet.

I'm going to make these for a bake sale at the end of the month. (can't wait!!) I'm in Canada and have never seen the "bark" but we do have the candy waifers / discs that you melt. Would those be OK to use? Would they still taste chocolatey?

they look really yummy, but I dont have that kind of oreos where I live, do you think it would work if I make the regular ones and add a bit of mint essence in the cream cheese before mixing??? or maybe in the white chocolate covering?

I made these, as well as the regular Oreo truffles, when I read the recipe for Oreo truffles. I just used the whole package of Double Stuff Oreos like you would do for the regular ones, and the mix was a bit too moist before I put in cream cheese because of all the cream. I added in Thin Mints (thank you Girl Scouts!), about 2/3 of a tube, so it was the right consistency. If its not Girl Scout season, maybe you could substitute Keebler Fudge Shoppe Grasshopper cookies? http://www2.kelloggs.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=1124
Needless to say, both flavors were a huge success!

pamela lang - It's a set of three extension tubes from Canon. EF25 and 2 EF12's if that helps. You can use one or any combination of them together. I borrowed them, so I really don't know much about them, but I usually just use one of the EF12 rings/tubes and that get's pretty close.

I made the original oreo truffles tonight (added mint and some green food coloring to 1/2 the batch). Anyways, I need some tips on the dipping part. What do you use to melt your chocolate? What do you use to get the chocolate so thick on yours? Is there a tool you use? When I dip lollipop type things I don't have the problem cause I have the stick to hang on to...so what's your secret to the balls? Also, I use Wiltons melting chocolate and I've never had a problem (Walmart/Michaels)...I just have a problem with the balls! Help!

BTW- LOVE your blog. My hips grow every time I read it!

So I will put three blocks in a bowl at a time and melt in the microwave at 30 second intervals until melted. Then I will drop one ball in at a time and spoon chocolate over the ball. Then with the spoon, I lift the ball out of the chocolate and tap the side of the spoon against the side of the bowl. I tap it several times to knock the excess chocolate off. Then I will let it slide off the spoon onto the wax paper covered cookie sheet so that the part of the ball that was sitting on the spoon is now sitting on the wax paper.

Update. I couldn't resist. I made the truffles. I scraped out the fillings, like you said, from those extra ten cookies. (That leaves one cookie from the package with no home. Om! Down the hatch he went.) I tasted the finished product...and added the fillings (that I hadn't already eaten - I needed a mint fix!) back into the bowl and it made it just minty enough. AMAZING. I had so much fun forcing my friends to guess what was in their "truffles" before they could take their second bite. Only one girl got it right, but she apparently eats an inordinate amount of Double Stuffed Mint Oreos.

I absolutely LOVE your blog! And i made these oreo truffles for Valentines Day, but I found that it was very hard for me to dip the truffles easily and without them looking like a mess. I dipped them with a spoon and I did refrigerate them for about 20 mins, but by the end my white chocolate bark was barely white anymore with the crumbs :( Can you give me any helpful suggestions on dipping them?
THEY WERE FABULOUS however!!!

TaraMetBlog - Don't say that. I'm sure they will.

Claudia - The white can be harder because it shows everything.

Try this. Leave them in the fridge/freezer while you dip and then just take a few out at a time, so the rest don't loose their firmness. Also, just dip them again in newly melted white bark. It will cover up all of your crumbs, and might even cover smoother. Good luck.
