You guessed it… Mint Oreo Truffles ummmmm… good. These might even be better than the originals (well, maybe). And, they're just as easy to make, but because I could only find the mint Oreos in Double Stuf, I changed the ratios a little from the regular Oreo Truffle recipe. Here you go…
Mint Oreo Truffles
1 pkg. Double Stuf Oreos - Cool Mint Flavor - (1 lb. , 1 oz. pkg.)
• use 22 cookies with cream centers included
• use 10 cookies with cream centers discarded
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, room temperature
chocolate bark or candy coating*
- Finely crush the cookies in a food processor or a ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
- Stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together completely.
- Roll the mixture into 1" balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
- Place covered in freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes to help retain shape when dipping in melted chocolate.
- Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry.
- Refrigerate and enjoy!
white chocolate bark/candy coating for dipping
green candy melts for dipping
- Make your green and/or white shamrocks first (see picture below). You can use a ziploc bag with a small corner cut off or a decorating bag with with a small round tip attached to make the shamrocks. Use a toothpick to direct chocolate into desired shamrock shape. (Of course, in hindsight, this would have been a lot easier if I had found some little shamrock sprinkles.) Let dry.
- Then, dip half the truffles in white chocolate and the other half in green.
- If necessary, dip them again for a smooth finish. I found it necessary, especially for the white ones.
- Then, on the second dipping, while still wet, press your cooled shamrocks gently on the top of your truffles.
- For another effect, you can take the ziploc bag of chocolate and drizzle across each truffle with the alternating color.

Makes about 36 truffles.
Recipe amended from Kraft Food & Family Fall 2006.
I used a brand from Hobby Lobby for the green candy melts and regular white chocolate bark found at Kroger for the rest. But since I can't find a link to them online, here's a few links to some other candy melts I found, but haven't tried yet.

These are the cutest things ever! So festive!
another great creation!
These are so cute!
Absolutely adorable. What a "lucky" find!
These sound sooo good! Like a Thin Mint (which I already love), but even better! Thanks for the recipe!
I'm going to make these for a bake sale at the end of the month. (can't wait!!) I'm in Canada and have never seen the "bark" but we do have the candy waifers / discs that you melt. Would those be OK to use? Would they still taste chocolatey?
they look really yummy, but I dont have that kind of oreos where I live, do you think it would work if I make the regular ones and add a bit of mint essence in the cream cheese before mixing??? or maybe in the white chocolate covering?
Very cute. You have the best ideas!
These sound so great! I will need to try these out! They turned out so cute.
I saw the mint last night at the store, thanks for ammending the recipe, I'm making tonight for the school party tomorrow! You're my new hero!!

Oh, no! My hips curse your FOREVER.
(But my little boca loves you!)
Cute idea, we have a St. Pats party on Monday, these would make great treats!
By the way, I'll have to let you know how they go over at the baby shower this weekend too!
Bakerella,

landa - thank you.
nicole - I'm just lucky they came out alright. I was experimenting with the shamrocks.
lindaj - your welcome. I don't think I've had a thin mint before.
melissa - those will work. That's what I used for the green. They'll taste chocolatey, but you can always dip in chocolate candy wafers for a more chocolate taste.
megan - why thanks!
handi dandi mandi - glad you liked the candi (covered truffles)
nucmed is hot - Oh good. and good luck!

omg bakerella your creations are so adorable and they look so yummy!
I always found the St. Patricks Day sweets-offerings very disappointing...until now. Bakerella, you have rocked my day and tastebuds with these!!
Those look great! Perfectly themed for St. Patty Day.
I really, really need to remove some of you baking people from my Google Reader because I swear I gain weight just reading your blogs. I try to watch what I eat, but it's great to enjoy seeing the recipes all pretty. When I finally decide to make something I already have in mind what it will be. This one is waaayy at the top of the list!
Mollie - I guess your husband's a lucky guy! I'll email you.
maichelle - thanks so much!
cakespy - I agree! But, I think I'm going to have to try some match powder in something soon. That stuff looks pretty cool.

wow, i stumbled on your blog and i must say i have never seen anything quite as amazing! you are truly creative and inspirational! i'll be frequenting your site a lot! keep up the superb job!
Those are completely brilliant. I love oreos. I even splurge on Newman's Own Os. Love the mint green theme. Awesome idea.
Yum, yum! I ended up making these last night and sooooo good! Mine are not as cute as yours :) I don't have the skill or patience for the shamrock decorations but green and white with drizzle will work for me. Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely FANTASTIC! I've been a lurker here for a while and I just have to say that this is one of my very favorite blogs! Way to go!
These are so cute...and a great use of something I'm not a big fan of...flavored Oreos...I just like the original.
Love your blog.
What a creative site. The desserts and pictures are awesome. I think you mentioned somewhere that you used macro rings on your lens for more close up? What do you use?
I'm thinking about trying those cute cake balls on a stick for my son's first bday party, but not sure if I'm up to it, :)
thanks
Pam
I made these, as well as the regular Oreo truffles, when I read the recipe for Oreo truffles. I just used the whole package of Double Stuff Oreos like you would do for the regular ones, and the mix was a bit too moist before I put in cream cheese because of all the cream. I added in Thin Mints (thank you Girl Scouts!), about 2/3 of a tube, so it was the right consistency. If its not Girl Scout season, maybe you could substitute Keebler Fudge Shoppe Grasshopper cookies? http://www2.kelloggs.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=1124
Needless to say, both flavors were a huge success!
Thanks anonymous - Hope you come back soon.
elise - Wow, thanks for commenting. I love your site. It's really well done and great recipes. I'll have to look for the Newmans Own. Thanks.
r, k, & o - hey green and white drizzle is just as cute. I'm glad you tried and like them.
lauriebelle - thanks and you can lurk here anytime!
kitchentrove - I have to admit, I like the originals best too.
pamela lang - It's a set of three extension tubes from Canon. EF25 and 2 EF12's if that helps. You can use one or any combination of them together. I borrowed them, so I really don't know much about them, but I usually just use one of the EF12 rings/tubes and that get's pretty close.
lauren - thanks for the tip.
As always your never fail to impress me..Thanks so much for sharing...
these are really cute, look tasty!
Thanks for your inspiration, Bakerella! Just finished these up this morning and aded them to my blog! I made them with your cakeball recipe! Fabulous!!!
Thanks for sharing, I have unfortunately turned all my friends on to your blog, we will all be needing Weight Watcher's but it has been so much fun getting to the XXL!
Bakerella,
I absolutely love all the great treats you create! My sister and I tried to make the truffles today. Could you please explain more about how you dip the balls in chocolate? For the life of us, we couldn't get them to come out coated as anything resembling a round shape! Help!
Thanks! Love your site!
So cute and they sound so yummy! I just love following your blog! I added a link to yours from mine! Thanks for all the great ideas & recipes!
So yummy looking! Just found your blog and loving it!
I was so inspired I made these myself and I want to thank you for the delightful yummy treat! Thanks for the inspiration! Happy St. Patty's Day!

Here is my link to this delicious treat! Thank you again!
Bakerella,
I made the original oreo truffles tonight (added mint and some green food coloring to 1/2 the batch). Anyways, I need some tips on the dipping part. What do you use to melt your chocolate? What do you use to get the chocolate so thick on yours? Is there a tool you use? When I dip lollipop type things I don't have the problem cause I have the stick to hang on to...so what's your secret to the balls? Also, I use Wiltons melting chocolate and I've never had a problem (Walmart/Michaels)...I just have a problem with the balls! Help!
BTW- LOVE your blog. My hips grow every time I read it!
I hope you have some Easter ones you can post!! I'd love to see some in time to make them for my Easter party this weekend. I can't wait to try them. You are so creative.
lulu lemon - Thanks and no problem
goldteeth - tasty indeed!
miss t - omg… you did a really great job. I see you had no problems with the dipping either. Fantastic!
miss b - Thanks, I know what you mean.
anonymous - I have the best results with chocolate bark, (Kroger brand believe it or not) It comes packaged in blocks. So I will put three blocks in a bowl at a time and melt in the microwave at 30 second intervals until melted. Then I will drop one ball in at a time and spoon chocolate over the ball. Then with the spoon, I lift the ball out of the chocolate and tap the side of the spoon against the side of the bowl. I tap it several times to knock the excess chocolate off. Then I will let it slide off the spoon onto the wax paper covered cookie sheet so that the part of the ball that was sitting on the spoon is now sitting on the wax paper.
nikki - glad you like it.
jenmarie - thank you
christie - great job with the truffles. I like the sprinkles.
kendylady - I melt the chocolate bark or candy melts in the microwave in small batches. On these, I dipped them again after they dried to help them smooth out. That made them a little thicker (I did it mainly on the white ones) But, as for the dipping, I just use a spoon and a bowl.

Anonymous - check back tomorrow.
Aah! I love these! I used to buy mint oreos every year for my husbands when we were dating. He'd love these. You think washing them down with the Shamrock shakes I just made might be going over the top?
wow! those are super cute and look so good!
ubGreat fun- I love them!
you are so creative!!! i just love visiting your site to see what new things you've made
I made these yesterday and they were DE-lish!!!! I made enough to give my neighbors too!!
susan from food blogga - Oooh… shamrock shakes - send one over.
nana - thank you.
recipegirl - UR2 sweet.
maybe strawberry - thanks, I'm glad you like.
anonymous - oh, your neighbors are lucky.
Update. I couldn't resist. I made the truffles. I scraped out the fillings, like you said, from those extra ten cookies. (That leaves one cookie from the package with no home. Om! Down the hatch he went.) I tasted the finished product...and added the fillings (that I hadn't already eaten - I needed a mint fix!) back into the bowl and it made it just minty enough. AMAZING. I had so much fun forcing my friends to guess what was in their "truffles" before they could take their second bite. Only one girl got it right, but she apparently eats an inordinate amount of Double Stuffed Mint Oreos.
aunt lolo - that's awesome. I'm glad they came out great for you.
Gonna have to try these, but i know they won't look as nice.
BAKERELLA
I absolutely LOVE your blog! And i made these oreo truffles for Valentines Day, but I found that it was very hard for me to dip the truffles easily and without them looking like a mess. I dipped them with a spoon and I did refrigerate them for about 20 mins, but by the end my white chocolate bark was barely white anymore with the crumbs :( Can you give me any helpful suggestions on dipping them?
THEY WERE FABULOUS however!!!
-Claudia
TaraMetBlog - Don't say that. I'm sure they will.
Claudia - The white can be harder because it shows everything.
Try this. Leave them in the fridge/freezer while you dip and then just take a few out at a time, so the rest don't loose their firmness. Also, just dip them again in newly melted white bark. It will cover up all of your crumbs, and might even cover smoother. Good luck.
that was fantastic. And it reminded me very much of 'Teeny Little Super Guy' from Sesame Street back in the day ... anyone? anyone? ;)
writerjax - no, not me, but I'm glad you liked it.
