Here's what the cookies should look like when crushed…

And, here's what they look like before the chocolate…

Here's the bark that I use (except imagine it in white chocolate)

Oreo Truffles
1 package oreo cookies (divided… use cookie including the cream center)
1 8oz. package cream cheese (softened)
white chocolate bark
1. Finely crush 7 cookies in a food processor or place them in a ziploc bag and crush into a fine consistency. Reserve for later.
2. Crush remaining cookies and stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together.
3. Roll the mixture into 1" balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
4. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry. You can sprinkle the tops with the 7 crushed cookies for decoration. (I usually eat mine before they make it to this stage.)
5. Once dry, refrigerate and enjoy!
Makes about 36 truffles.
Notes: I used a small cookie cutter to push the mixture through for the heart shaped truffles. Also, it helps to freeze the uncoated balls for a few minutes to keep the mixture from starting to fall apart in the melted chocolate. If this becomes a problem, dip them in the chocolate, let dry and then dip again. They are also good dipped in regular milk chocolate bark. And for an extra twist, use the mint oreo sandwich cookies.
Recipe amended from Kraft Food & Family Fall 2006.

These look delicious! Nice photos!
Thank you, Jennifer! Just trying to make them look as good as yours.
What a great idea. can't wait to go grocery shopping so I can buy Oreos an make your beautiful truffles.
xxx
They look wonderful! I love the heart shaped ones.
Just a word of warning from my first effort: Be sure to use the DIPPING Chocolate :) I had disastrous results when I tried to dip my oreo truffles in melted white chocolate morsels. The non-dipping chocolate is too heavy and sticky to work. Also, I assure you the Mint Oreos are PHENOMENAL! I think next time I try this recipe I'm going to try the Golden Oreos and see how they turn out.
I'm so excited that I discovered your blog today...I will try these for my next special occasion!!!
These look phenomenal! I just discovered your blog today and absolutely love it! Keep up the great work and photography!
Amazing photos!
Welcome everyone and thank you so much for the great comments!
And h-bomb is right. Don't try this with chocolate morsels. I added a pic of the bark that I use.
I've also tried it with Baker's semi-sweet Baking Chocolate. This worked pretty good, except if you held one for more than a few seconds it would start to melt on your fingertips. The bark is best I think.
These look wonderful. Though, I've never tried Oreo cookies in my life!:D I'm dreaming about meking these truffles from Fazer's Domino cookies. My cookie heaven, I guess:)
I used to make peanut butter balls similar to this technique. It called for regular chocolate for dipping, but you add a bit of paraffin to it. I bet that is the big difference. So, you might be able to use other kinds of chocolate if you wanted. Just add the wax.
(:
Thanks evelin! Oreos are super common in the U.S., but I hope you can try these with cookies that you are familiar with.
Thanks for the tip lena. I've used the paraffin to make my chocolate bark go farther before, but haven't used it with different kinds of chocolates.
Made these with my two 5 year old daughters. With white chocolate and dark chocolate. They really enjoyed making and eating them...
Thanks for this wonderfull recipe...
dennan - I'm so glad you made these. My 6-year old niece enjoyed them as well.
hi! just wanna ask if i can have these little cuties unrefrigerated for 24 hrs? coz i am planning to ship them out of town and usually it takes a day... hope you can help me... thanks and more power. God bless.
I think they would be ok for a day. I keep mine refirgerated, but I know a couple of people that have left theirs out. Try it and let me know how it works for you.
I tried a recipe from the Bakerella site. It was the Oreo cookie truffle. WOW! I am not a choc maker at all. So it was pretty messy, BUT I bought all the right things. Little red boxes at Micheals
that holds 3 truffles. Cute little foil liner holders, stick- ons for the box that have a Valentine love quote & tied a gold ribbon on it.:)
OK, for the truffle I tried to put to much into the food processor & then had to take half out & go again. I bought the right coating choc, as I read all the blogs. It was Wilton Coating Choc. I got it in white & dk choc. I bought plastic dipping tools & well the dipping was the hardest part.
Next time I will make my balls smaller. I bought some white fondant which I rolled out & cut with a tiny heart cookie cutter & that covered mistakes on the top. I did white choc & dk Choc. I put choc melt into an icing bag & drew hearts on the white ones & some zig zags on others. On the dk choc truffles, I rolled out the fondant & cut tiny white hearts & placed them on the dark.
When my 18 year old daughter came home & saw all the cute boxes & decorated choc, she begged for a box for her friend. I knew they were a hit cuz she is so picky. She lit up after tasting these. So thank you so much. I have made a truffle.
Lovin Life Karen
karen - it can be messy, but it gets easier. I'm glad your daughter liked them. And your presentation sounds lovely.
I just made these and they turned out great. I'm not a typical cook, I don't own much except pots and pans, so I make due with what I have.
I used a 1 lb 2oz package of the reduced fat oreos. I crushed all of the oreos up by hand, and sifted them all through a collander to make sure they were powdery enough.
I used a block of reduced fat cream cheese. I didn't think it was going to be enough for all of the oreos, but it turned out fine.
After making balls out of the oreos mixture, I put in the freezer for 20 minutes. This allowed them to set up.
I made a double boiler and melted a 12 oz package of Nestle Premiere White Morsels, even against the better judgement of other people on this board. The chips worked FINE. They hardened up and didnt stay sticky. Don't listen to these people.
All in all, delicious and rich. Well done.
Anonymous - I'm so glad they turned out great. I haven't tried the nestle morsels to dip these with… only the bark and the Baker's brand chocolate, so that's good to know. thanks.
Just wanted to say thank you again for the recipe:) I made my Domino truffles and they taste wonderful!
Tried both white and chocolate chips - NOT good. Used a double boiler and perhaps the water was too hot, but dipping left way too much coating and it hardened in the pan before more than a few were dipped.
evelin - I just saw your truffles. They look great!
Anonymous - try to find the bark next time. It's made for dipping/coating, more than the chips are.
I've made Oreo truffles before, with semi-sweet chocolate. They're so easy to make! The white chocolate you used just looks so yummy! I think I'll make some soon. (:
I made the oreo/cream cheese mix with double stuff oreos - they were what we already had. The mix is very gooey, I am not sure I can shape it into balls. Help! Any suggestions??
kandaboers - I haven't tried them yet with double stuf, but if you reserved any like the recipe suggests, just scrape off the creme centers on the extra ones and crush and add just the remaining cookie parts. If that doesn't help, refrigerate your mixture for a while before you begin to roll them into balls.
i used double stuf as well. i just put them in the freezer so that i could handle them. but they soften quickly and get a little mushy. so, they definitely have to be refrigerator.
I'm going to try the double stuf soon, so I'm glad they worked pretty well for you.
These are fantastic! I made them as a holiday treat for Valentine's Day and they are soooooo yummy. A tad rich, but good! Thanks, Bakerella!
These look delicious!
What do you mean when you say that the oreos are "divided"? Am I supposed to scrape off the cream center?
you're welcome, anonymous!
Kelly - You need to use the cream centers. I just mean to separate and or break the cookies up to make it easier when you chop.
I have made these before and put a Junior Mint into the middle of the oreo ball when I roll them, then dip in the white bark. Yummmmmyyyyy!! Most requested Christmas treat from family and friends. Saw it originally in Southern Living magazine, 2005, I think.
do you have any idea where I could find the bark online? I live in Israel, and baking supplies are a little scant. the truffles look marvelous!
Bakerella, thanks to your recipe, my mom, sisters, and my cousin`s boyfriend now are addicted to your truffles!!! I had to make them twice in the day, cause they ate the first batch inmediately! I didnt had oreos, so I used a similar kind of cookie, that is less chocolaty the second time and it worked wondefull, softer, and also had to melt regular white chocolate to cover and turned out too sticky. thanks for sharing!!!
Anonymous - junior mints, that sounds cool.
leah - try searching for Wilton Candy Melts or Merckens Candy melts. I can't find the bark I use online, but either of these should work. I put some links here:
http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2008/03/its-no-shamthese-rock.html
anonymous - how fun! And I just made some mint oreos. They are a big hit, too!
I made these this morning and they tasted great but didn't look as nice as the ones in your photos!
I had a lot of trouble coating them in chocolate, what utensil are you using when you dip one into the mixture? I used a spoon but the coating came out uneven and sloppy. Is there a special technique to coat them?
anonymous - I just use a spoon. I dip the ball in a bowl of the melted chocolate bark. Then cover the top with chocolate with the spoon. Then I scoop it out and tap the spoon against the side of the bowl really good to get the excess chocolate off. It also smoothes it some by doing this. And then, I transport it to the wax paper and let it carefully slide of the tip of the spoon so that the part of the ball that was sitting on the spoon lands on the wax paper. Hope that helps.
I'm so glad I just read that last comment you made Bakerella - mine are in the refrigerator chilling and I'm about to heat the chocolate bark and dip them! I made the mint ones from your St. Pattys Day post. I'm just going to sprinkle them with cupcake sprinkles in green for St. Patricks Day - can't wait to taste them, they smell great already!
anonymous - good, I hope it goes well!
I found these picture the DAY after I gave up sweets for lent (40 days). These are on the top of my to eat list on Easter. I've been thinking about them non stop (even bought the ingredients 2 weeks ago) since I saw the pic. Only 1.5 days left :)
bflick - that's awesome. I hope they are all that you imagined. Happy Easter!
Hey, i am so glad I found your blog! (from flickr) very inspired and i did mine version of oreo truffles too! Pretty messy with the chocolate but it was fun and pretty as they turned out.
Welcome mushroom garden from flickr - I saw yours. They look fantastic!
thanks for this great idea. i just love oreos and now i love this truffuls. they where a great hit at my girl party yesterday.
jennie, sweden
Jennie - Wow, a hit in Sweden. That's awesome!
I made 1/2 batch with regular oreos, and 1/2 a batch with mint, since I only had one package of cream cheese :o) I made mine pretty small, and ended up getting 90 of them! One package of white melties was plenty enough... actually had enough left over to tint green and drizzle over the mint ones (be sure to use paste or powder food coloring)! Yummy. Thanks for a great idea! Can't wait to try the Red Velvet balls!
Wow, sounds great. And 90 of them. I may have to make some smaller next time.
Fabulous! Just made some of these with the kidlets - turned out great! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas! We are making the cupcake bites next.
I'm wondering... about how long do these keep? If I made them Tuesday evening, would they still be as good on Friday evening?
Thanks!!
Anonymous - You'll love those, too.
michelle bee - Keep them refrigerated and they should still be good. That is if you can resist eating them by then.
I love your blog. I just made a batch of truffles with strawberry milkshake oreos (limited edition). I dipped them in red dipping chocolate and put chocolate spots on them, for my daughter's ladybug picnic birthday party. They were really easy to make. I just can't stop eating them, they are so yummy. Next I am going to try the mint oreos and also the mini red velvet cupcakes. I just love, love, love your blog. Thanks for all the fun ideas. Please keep them coming!!!
Just had to tell you ... I made and donated the desserts for a big Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraiser a couple weeks ago, and I used some of your fabulous recipes. I made oreo truffles (dipped in milk chocolate), mint oreo truffles (dipped in milk chocolate), and spice cake truffles (spice cake crumbles mixed with cream cheese icing, dipped in white chocolate). They were such a HUGE hit!! I made almost 500 truffles, and they ran out an hour before the event ended! Thank you so much for your amazing blog and fantastic ideas! :)
kelly - those sound super cute.
I'd love to see pics.
Jess - I am amazed. That is some serious dipping going on. Send pics if you have any.
Can you believe that I didn't take a single picture of them??? I wish I had. :( It was very tedious dipping that many truffles, but my husband was sweet enough to help me, and we kind of got into a rhythm after awhile. It was still a lot simpler than decorating a wedding cake. :)
I made these on Monday for fun, and they were so delicious and beautiful, that I made them again on Saturday for a girls night out. YUM! Thanks for all the fun and tasty ideas! Here is a link to my blog post about the experience: http://meplus3hecks.blogspot.com/2008/05/another-oreo-triumph.html
Jess - you're husband is sweet! Wish I had a helper.
Andrea & da boyz - Great job! They are addictive!
Chocolate flavored bark? Isn't that fake chocolate?
The chocolate bark and candy melts work great for dipping, so I'm not complaining.
I have a question :) can the Oreo mixture (Oreos and cream cheese) be used to make your cake pops? I am going to attempt to make the pops for my moms birthday and thought Oreos would be so good in the middle! if you think they may crumble then I'll just stick with cake. Thanks! you are awesome!
I think they would work fine. I haven't shaped the oreo mixture yet, but a few other readers have with success.
Bakerella,
I want to make these today. Instead of cookies, I have a huge box of oreo crumbs I got at Smart and Final. Do you have any idea what the measurement of crumbs would be?
thanks!
emily
Emily, I don't, but just start with adding half the amount of cream cheese. And then keep adding as needed until you get the consistency that you can roll into balls like the pics. Good luck.
Oh these are so awesome! You are incredibly talented, your blog makes my hearts sing and my thighs cry ;0)
Thankyou for sharing.
Mine are crying with you.
Thanks for the tip on how to dip with the spoon. I couldn't figure out how to do it without getting chocolate everywhere...not like that's a bad thing though.
I LOVE your blog!
Thanks Beth. Glad to help.
hi. first timer. found you though pioneer woman. love your site! i made the oreo balls for a halloween party. coated white choc. and made them look like eye balls, with a big morsel chip and red veins. looked so cute ( next time i will use blue m&ms for center) everyone loved them. thank you.
romoland redhead - hey there! Glad you stopped by. Sounds like your bites came out great.
Hi, how big is your packet?
What do you do with the goodie that's in the middle of the oreo?
I think I need to make these.
isabelle - I used the 18 oz. package shown here:
http://www.nabiscoworld.com/Brands/brandlist.aspx?SiteId=1&CatalogType=1&BrandKey=oreo&BrandLink=/oreo/memories/&BrandId=78&PageNo=1
sandyquilts - you use the centers. (the whole cookie) They go in the food processor too.
I`ve been resisting subscribing to your blog because I know it`s going to make me fat just reading it . . . but this is too much. I can`t believe I didn`t see this post before!
Guess what my inlaws are getting for Christmas? ;) A big basket of Oreo Truffles!
I *always* dip into melted chips - just stir in a Tablespoon of vegetable oil to thin it a bit and keep it from being too sticky.
Expat Mom - And, they'll love you for it!
Amy - I need to try that and see how it works. Thanks.
Thanks so much for that recipe; it really turned out well!
It took me about three and a half hours to make sixty truffles (I like mine small), and it was time very enjoyably spent. If I'd had a mixer I could have done it much faster-- I had to do all the crushing and mixing by hand.
I put up pictures at http://oiboyz.blogspot.com/2008/11/oreo-truffles.html , but of course they're not as good-looking as yours, Bakerella!
I'm glad you liked them Rachel!
I linked you on my family blog- I just LOVE these Truffles and the guests at my bunko loved them too! THANKS!!!
The Jen - I'm glad you enjoyed them.
These look SO good. Fell in love with oreo's when I worked in the states many years ago and found out recently that I can now get them at my local supermarket :-) However, I have no idea what the chocolate bark stuff is (sorry if you've already answered this and i just missed it. Any idea what a UK equivalent might be?
I tried these tonight, and they look adorable! Very sweet though, I can't imagine eating more than one at a time. I had trouble dipping them and getting them off the fork, so mine didn't turn out nearly as pretty as yours... but I still totally love this recipe and will probably do it again!
(There's pics of mine on my latest blog entry)
I just made some tonight with the Limited Edition Candy Cane Oreos - wow! After I dipped them in white chocolate I crushed candy canes up in the food processor and sprinkled them on top. The Limited Edition packages are smaller, so they were pretty soft (should have used less cream cheese), but they still taste AMAZING!
Alison C - chocolate bark, candy coating and candy melts can be used interchangeably. Here's some melts from Amazon.com
http://astore.amazon.com/bakerella-20?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=11
Katie - I don't use a fork. Try a spoon and let them slide off on to the wax paper.
Courtney - I've got to look for those at the store.
I have a TON of holiday treats to make, and I was curious do you think once I made these dipped and all if I could freeze them??
Kylee - it's worth a try. I haven't frozen the oreos, but I think they would be fine. They also last for several days on the fridge, if you don't want to freeze.
Bakerella I just found your blog and I love it to death! I am going to try making these truffles but shape them into small holiday cookie cutter molds, like candy canes, gingerbead men, leaves and stockings. The shapes are very small like an inch and half in length so I'm hoping it will all work out fine. I will try and post a picture when I'm through if I can just figure out how to do that. or maybe I'll just email them to you.
I just tried making these for the first time yesterday. I couldn't find the bark, or any of the Wilton candy melts, so I used the Baker's white chocolate.
They tasted so delicious! I love them!
The Baker's white chocolate had a great taste, but the end result was not nearly as beautiful as yours with the bark. I normally wouldn't mind how they looked, since they tasted so good, but I was making them to put in Christmas treat boxes for friends, and wanted everything to look as cute as possible.
So I rolled the balls in coconut immediately after rolling them in the baker's chocolate. It solved the look issue - the coconut hides any messiness of the chocolate. And they tasted amazing! The coconut flavor worked really well with the Oreo chocolate taste.
Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
Here's a photo of my Oreo Coconut Truffles:

(and here's a photo of what mine looked like without the coconut: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chowmeyow/3106991393/)
Hi I was wondering if anybody has tried freezing these? I need to get ahead on my baking for a party that is next Sunday, and I dont think they would last until then. If you have tried freezing them how did it work? Did they still look nice? Thanks for any help you can offer!
I love Candy Cane Joe Joes from Trader Joe's... I would bet these would be fabulous with those!! :)
sw33p3a - good luck.
Emily - they look good. Here's a tip. Sometimes the white can be harder to work with because it shows specks underneath. So just dip them twice. And the second go round will smooth them out a little more too
Anonymous - If you made them today for this sunday I think they would still be fine. Just keep them refrigerated.
Christine - I like the way you think.
thank you for sharing! those truffles are delicious! i made them for my son's birthday party, and everybody loves the truffles..but mine was not beautiful as yours... :)
I just made these for christmas gifts and they turned out great! I was also inspired by this recipe to make a 'smore' truffle, with graham cracker center, chocolate bark coating, and a small piping of buttercream frosting ; )
dita - when they're that good, it doesn't matter what they look like.
kelli - that sounds delicious!
these are totally yummy!
i made some (only half of the recipe) and was able to eat most of it by myself!
although i can't bring it out to my friends (or anything which includes traveling for more than 15min) because i'm in singapore & it's hot & humid here...
nevertheless, i'll still make some! i'll just think of a way to transport them without melting hihihi!
janis - glad you liked them. Could you freeze them and then transport?
These look great! I'm going to make them for Christmas. I make a peanut butter candy that's kind of similar, but I make it in little paper cups to get around the dipping thing. It might work with this too.
I made these yesterday and they were a massive hit. I only made a small batch (300 grams of Oreos and 125 grams of cream cheese)but this made about 35 truffles. I used normal cooking white chocolate chips, melted them in a bain-maree and the dipping turned out fine.
Thanks so much for this recipe!
i just wanted to add to your list of fans! :) my daughter and i made your truffles today, and WOW! they are so so yummy. my husband said it's the best recipe i've ever found...a huge compliment from a huge cookie-lover! :) by the way, i used the ghirardelli candy making and dipping bar (double chocolate)...worked wonderfully. i also have a bar of the white choc to use on my next batch, which i think will have to be the mint oreos! thank you again!
Copperheart - hope you like them
Lin - YAY, and you're welcome.
sarah - I want some. Yum!! Guess I'll have to make some more.
OK, so this is a silly question, but I don't know the answer. I can only find two flavors of bark: chocolate and vanilla. Is vanilla flavored bark the same as white chocolate bark?
Oh dear -- in your other recipe, you used cream cheese frosting to go with the red velvet cake for these delightful balls. Will the truffles taste just as delicious without the frosting and with using only cream cheese instead?
Have you ever tried using the frosting with the oreos? Is it too sweet or something? =]
Jacob - Yes… they're the same.
You can find other colors in vanilla flavor as well. Check out Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
Connie - They'll taste different and have a different texture/consistency.
Both are really good in different ways. Also, I haven't tried the frosting with the oreos.
Could you use the truffle bites with a stick, like in the "pops" recipes?
hi bakerella,
i was thinking of making these to sell as wedding favours in my local area. the only problem is refridgeration. would you suggest putting a little disclaimer in each favour box telling guests to store uneaten truffles in the fridge? not everyone is a pig like me & might not eat them straight away. how long would these keep outside of a fridge?
thanks,
bianca
Anonymous - I don't see why not.
Bianca - I'm not up on the food safety side of things. You should ask a bakery that works with cheesecakes or and such.
Hi Bakerella! I made these oreo truffles over the weekend and got a ton of compliments! They are so good, and SO easy! Great recipe - love your site!
They defintitely have a WOW factor.
anything to replace the bark?
Jolynn - candy caoting, candy melts
Try Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Kroger, Wal-Mart or online.
http://astore.amazon.com/bakerella-20?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=11
this recipe looks awesome! i'm thinking about making them for a valentines day gift.. any ideas how to make it valentiney? I'm thinking about using Mint Oreos, and white chocolate coating, but other than cutting them into heart shaped pieces, no idea how to make it more holidayish. Any thoughts?
They make pink candy melts. You could do that.
http://astore.amazon.com/bakerella-20?node=11&page=2
Also, take a look at this post. It's cake but you can do the oreos, too.
http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2009/02/valentines-day-gift-box-of.html
Hii Bakerella, I just discovered your site via Cakewrecks and think this recipe is awesome! I want to try it out, but I'm not sure what cream cheese is. I'm Dutch, and we have 'roomkaas' but I'm not sure if it's the same.
Is it like the brand Philidelphia, or am I entirely on the wrong track? Also, I think the Oreo cookies may be packaged differently here, so I was wondering how many cookies did you use? And do you think I could use different cookies aswell?
Hope you don't mind all the questions. I LOVE your site!<3
These are unbelievably fabulous!!! I have so many groups of people hooked on them and begging for the recipe. I am going to try the Red Velvet Cake Balls this weekend! I love this site and have learned so much from all of your pictures and details. Thank you so much!!
I had trouble finding bark, partially from lack of time, so I used Nestle Premier White choc chips and melted them in 30sec intervals in my micro-cooker(product from Pampered Chef), I only did half the bag at a time so it didn't harden. They were very tasty with the chips even. I also used two forks for dipping which made it much easier!! Thought this might help, because I have trouble seeing outside the exact ingredients or methods used in a recipe and was pleasantly surprised at how well the came out the first time.
I also made them in Mint filling with dark choc...but all I could find were the double stuff mint oreos...they were mushy, but still tasted great...maybe I will try refrigerator next time instead of trying to freeze to harden.
Thanks again for a great site!!
angiefaith - I don't remember how many were in the package. The brand is Philadelphia cream cheese and yes you can try it with other cookies. I used them with Nutter Butters, but the oreos are better.
Anonymous - good luck with them
Anonymous - With the double stuf, just take out some of the creme centers on some of the cookies before you combine.
great, thank you =D
I made these last night for my fiance (an Oreo fiend). I had a little trouble with the coating, since some of it seized up due to overheating, but in the end, all was good!
I made mine heart shaped as well, and they are sooo cute! I can't wait for my Valentine to try them.
Thanks for the recipe!
angiefaith - sure.
lovewins88 - glad they were still tasty. I bet your guy will love em!
I love your site! I made these truffles for my me and friends & roommates and they were a big hit! [I decorated mine with red sprinkles for valentine's day =)]
I bet they went crazy
Hi Bakerella,
I am planning on either making these or the cake balls, or both, to help out a friend for her mini-dessert reception. What do you recommend to store them for a couple of weeks? Would freezing be ok? And then should she just let them thaw before serving?
Thanks for your help!
i am not sure if you will see this. i sure hope so. i am thinking about doing these for wedding favors...but in the shape of a wedding cake. i am doing a lot of DIY stuff (and making the grooms cake) so I was just curious how far a head of time you think i could make these and how you would store them. i read your thoughts on the cake balls, but i didnt know if the oreos changed anything...
thanks!
Thank you so much for the recipe! I froze the balls before dipping, and used almond bark. The only tip I'd give is that the almond bark solidified very quickly after dipping, so be sure to sprinkle each ball right afterward.
I also bought a bag of the mint oreos, and after that I may try the peanut butter ones.
Hoichi - I've frozen the cake pops. And they worked fine. I imagine the oreo balls would be okay as well.
Anonymous - These should last in the fridge for several days as well.
Anonymous - You are absolutely right. You'll want to decorate them as you go.
@ angiefaith I am dutch as well you need "roomkaas"their phillydelphia is different
Thanks anonymous!
I tried this for Valentine's day this year. Not as perfect as you though!!!Do visit my website to take a peek. Thank you for the recipe & idea!!
~Mathi~
http://mathizworldofcakes.blogspot.com
Mathi - Nice job. Love the hair.
These were delicious!! It's amazing how something so simple can be transformed into something so exquisite!
have you tried the truffles using regular old chocolate chip cookies? I've made the oreo truffles.... HUGE hit!!! I'm so glad I found your blog!
Catherine - that's what I love about them
Lisa1219 - not yet.
Thank you for the great recipe and photos! I linked to you on Friday...http://giveLDSgifts.com
Could you make the cake pops using this recipe? Do you think it would be a good idea to try it? I was going to make the cake pop mini cupcakes for a baby shower and then I saw this recipe and was thinking it would be cool to use the mint oreos instead of cake since the mom to be loves mint chocolate stuff :P
Bakerella,
you're my not-so-secret hero! I decided that journalism isn't going to be the love of my life, so maybe a couple of years after I finish school (I'm a senior at uni), I want to open up my own cafe/bakery, and you're my inspiration.
My friend has talked me into making her some goodies for her monthly sleep-over, and since I'm always looking for an excuse to try new recipes, I've decided to tackle your Oreo truffles. I'm going to hunt for chocolate bark tomorrow. Wish me luck that they turn out nicely!
I love your blog!
Give LDS Gifts - cool
Stacy - yes.
dessertchick - so glad you found your true love.
Bakerella, you are a genius! I made these Oreo truffles and they turned out amazing! Thank you so much for the inspiration and idea! If you'd like to take a look, here's the link =)
http://chocolatefool.wordpress.com/2009/03/13/oh-yes-please-double-dip-my-oreo-cheesecake-truffles-in-chocolate/
ps: it looks like you and Pioneer Woman had a blast!
chocolatefool - you did an amazing job!
A friend of mine told me about this recipe years ago. I make it all the time. I use semi-sweet chips and a tsp of vegetable shortening and melt my chocolate in the microwave, 30 seconds at a time.
Also, I've started making some variations, adding raspberry, hazelnut and mint extracts to the oreo mixture. DELISH! Brand new reader by the way. :)
I bet the raspberry ones are delish.
Welcome to the site.
Wow!those Oreo cookie truffle look great .. crisp, rich in flavor and taste. I am going to bake it tonight for my children. I'm sure it'll be a big hit with the kids!
These look great; however I'm in the minority of people who don't like cream cheese. I know it's crazy but it grosses me out. What else could you use to make these? Any ideas?
Cheryl, you could try vanilla frosting I guess, I'm just not sure what the consistency would be like. You would probably need a lot less than what is used for the cake pops.
I think the frosting might end up being too sweet (is that possible?). I actually ended up using a yogurt substitute. I drained the yogurt overnight to get most of the liquid out and then beat it with 3 tbsp of butter and 3 tbsp of powdered sugar to get the consistency of cream cheese and they turned out beautifully.
thank you so much for being such an inspiration
we made oreo truffles today.
oreo truffles
Thank you so much for posting this recipe! Everyone I know loves them! I've made them two times now and I still can't believe how easy they are!
cheryl - Glad to hear the yogurt worked for you.
joanne & jena - you're most welcome.
These are to-die-for-good. A friend of mine made them, YUMMY!!! My daughter & I will be making these tomorrow.
I'm in the UK, and oreos are available, but chocolate bark isn't, and also I'm a little confused. By cream cheese do you mean Philadelphia cheese? I really want to make these... they look awesome!!
Bakerella...I am IN LOVE with your blog, as I am sure everyone else is! I was searching the web for some homemade wedding favor candies and stumbled upon your Oreo Truffles. Haven't made them yet, but from the looks of them, I am thinking I will give each of my guest 2 a peice as my favors. My question is... How long can I make these in advance? I was going to have a baking party with my bridesmaids and make them for the wedding...but how long do they keep? I can't be doing that the night before my wedding! Help! Thanks,
they should stay refrigerated, so they will keep for several days
I freeze these all the time and it works great! You'd never know they'd been frozen...same texture and taste. They need next to no time before they can be eaten. Only problem is that they are too easy to eat whenever you want!!
I made these for a meeting at my daughter's preschool this weekend, and they were such a hit, everyone "voted" that I'm now required to make them for all future school events, LOL!
A couple of people (in the comments) have asked whether you could do these on sticks like your cake pops. That was my original plan, but it didn't work for me. The consistency of the Oreo/cream cheese mixture is too "wet," I think -- the balls don't stay round, they "settle" into a flat-bottomed shape almost immediately. (Who knew there was so much oil in Oreos? My hands were slick with it after rolling them!)
Any suggestions on how to change the consistency to allow these to be made as pops? I actually made two different batches, one where I "reserved" the 7 Oreos, and one where I used all of them in the filling -- both ways, it was too wet to make pops. Maybe less cream cheese? Or mix in some chocolate cake? Any suggestions would be most appreciated -- these were TDF delish, but I love the cute factor with the pops, so I'd love to combine the two!
DawnP - yes, try using less cream cheese… and put them in the freezer for about 10 min to get them firm enough to dip easily.
Thanks! I guess I "have to" make another batch this week to try it. Darn. (LOL!)
I stumbled across your blog and am loving going through your archives! I would love to make these Oreo truffles and your recipe calls for one package of them.... I'm in the UK, and we do have Oreos (yay!) but our package sizes may be different to yours... any idea what the weight of oreos are needed?? Thanks!!
I made them last night. BIG HIT!
Shell - it's an 18 os. package like this.

Mystery solved as to why my truffles "sank" rather than staying round! The first time I made them, I used a food processor, not only to turn the Oreos into crumbs, but also to mix in the cream cheese. I guess that basically "liquified" the cream cheese, making the balls too wet to stay round. The next time I made them, I used the food processor for the cookies, but then mixed in the cream cheese with my mixer on low. The balls stayed MUCH firmer. I didn't try making them as pops (that's the next project), but I think the consistency should work now that I figured out the problem.
My next test is going to be to see if it works as well with store brand sandwich cookies as opposed to the brand name Oreos. I want to try the mint ones, and my local store only has Double Stuff mint Oreos, but has "single stuff" mint cookies in the store brand. We'll see how it goes...
Thanks Bakerella - I'll be making these as soon as I can now that I know the quantity of Oreos!!
Thanks so much for this recipe-- can't wait to try them. Question: I want to make them into pops and decorate them for my son's 1st bday party, but I can't think of any decorating ideas.. I know you have done valentines, halloween, etc. decorative pops.. Do you have any ideas or pics of other fun ways to decorate them? And the items you'd use to decorate with? Also, where do I get the pop sticks and dipping chocolate? does it work just as well if i use nestle choc chips and just add some veg oil or some paraben? THANKS!
Try the puppy pops from the site.
You can get most of the supplies from craft stores. I also put links to amazon which also offers most everything.
And, yes you can try chocolate and adding shortening if you can't find the melts.
Good luck.
These are delicious! Lucky in Love told me about these, so I decided I would make them for an upcoming 4th of July party. Well, I just made the test batch and Oh My Yum!
I used baking chocolate with shortening though, instead of the white chocolate bark. Held up beautifully so far. I'm dipping it twice to make them extra white (so I can drizzle red & blue chocolate over them).
Thank you for sharing!
I was so excited to make these after I did the hamburger cupcakes! But these didn't turn out well at all. :( I think it must have been the chocolate I used. I used light chocolate and white chocolate wafers but I don't think they worked well. Would they be different from the coloured wafers? I used a double boiler and the balls were melting and getting bits in the chocolate (this was after I had put them in the fridge for awhile). Anyway, the taste was...interesting. It's kind of a weird texture. I'm not sure I'll try those again but I'll definitely be trying your other recipes. :)
I made these yesterday along with the nutter butter balls and the cake balls (in devil's food) for my parent's 30th anniversary. It was a total success! I used some of the tips I found while perusing and they helped so much (like freezing the balls and using toothpicks). I used light and dark green melting chocolate disks and drizzled white chocolate over top of them. Here's the finished product: http://twitpic.com/8q4dj
Anonymous - it just sounds like your chocolate was too hot and melted the mixture
Connie - I like the greens.
