It's December! Time for Christmas cupcakes

Here's a set of Christmas cupcakes I made to start the month off right. We ate these while we decorated the house for the holidays. I also had some leftover batter, so I made a little red velvet cake just for fun.

Hi there, im a home baker too!

just wondering how you get your fondant so red.. im using wilton gelpaste colours, but no matter how much i add, i cant seem to get this gorgeous red.. i usually get a sort of intense pink.. hope you can shed some light on this puzzling problem. heh.

Hi audrey

I used the wilton concentrated paste in the little jar. It was either Christmas Red or Red (no taste). I just used a whole lot of it. My hands were almost wet, but it eventually all blended together. I'm sure there's a better way, because I have seen some really red reds out there.

these are awesome! are you willing to share the red velvet recipe? there are so many online...(and without reviews) that I am weary of trying them.
Is the smooth white pieces on top rolled fondant? Do you still have frosting underneath? Sorry for the ques overload...I am going to a holiday party on Friday with a dessert cook-off and I really want to win!

kielbasatime - Yes I am. Those were actually made with a Duncan Hines cake mix. Not what you're looking for to win a contest. I'm also looking for a go to scratch one. They are decorated with fondant. And there is a layer of frosting on top that helps the fondant adhere to the cupcake.

How cute and festive, I love them. May I ask if you used poured fondant to cover them, or did you make cutouts with a circle cookie cutter?
Thanks,
Melissa

I rolled the fondant and used the circle cutters. Haven't attempted poured fondant yet.

Those cupcakes are too cute to even eat! When i use red i use the americolor brand it is excellent requires about 1/10th as much as the wilton brand does.

That's great to know. I still haven't tried that brand yet.
